My name is Stephanie Zammit, I am 22 years old and I come from the beautiful island of Malta. Malta is a small island in the heart of the Mediterranean. I grew up in the town of Zejtun found in the south east of Malta. Zejtun is one of the eldest towns in Malta with a relatively high population of 12,000 people.
I am the daughter of separated parents and have lived with my mother for the past 11 years. I have an older sister, Eleanore who is now married and a mother of a sweet little child called Michaela. Michaela is only one year old but she already bears that friendly and sweet attitude synonymous of the Zammit family. My family is my pride and joy and being very close, we spend whole days together enjoying each other’s love and companionship. This familial love is typical of the Maltese population, being a nation who strongly believes in the value of family ties and friendship.
I started modeling only a few years ago, at the age of 19, fairly old for this kind of show business. However I loved modeling from the very first time I stepped on the catwalk because it makes me feel like a different person. On the catwalk you can adopt many different personalities.
Music is also a very important part of my life, being a part time singer I enjoy singing to any kind of tune. I could say that music is a passion for me being one of the few things in my life which relaxes and relieves me. I particularly enjoy singing soul, jazz and R&B since I believe that these genres really allow the singer to express himself. My only regret is that unfortunately it is very difficult to use this kind of profession on a full time basis and thus this means that I can’t use my talent to the full.
My mother has always gone to great lengths in order to ensure my sister and I a good education and this has made me even more appreciative of the importance of having a good educational background. I have just completed a four year degree course in Education, being now a fully qualified teacher of English and Home Economics. At the moment I am teaching in a Girls’ secondary school and I really have to say that I love my job. I thank my mother for instilling such important values which made me strive to achieve such an important degree. My career ambitions at the moment are to further my studies in education, particularly in the field of research where I would like to research adolescents and their habits. After taking a two year break from studying I intend to enroll myself for a Masters degree and if God permits a PHD after that.
I have done various jobs so far in order to support myself during my studying years, I haven’t done any odd jobs however I did work as a cashier in a world known fast food outlet and I can say I hated the job for the undignified way I was treated. I have also worked as a part time teacher for these past four years, teaching foreign students, a job which I have much at heart.
I have to say that I have been very lucky, in that there have been many moments in my life of which I was proud. However I have to say that the proudest moment in my life was when my niece Michela came into the world last year. It was the happiest day of my life, to see such a small creature, product of such love to come into the world. I still get goose pumps when I remember the first time I saw her wrapped in a white shawl, still warm from her mother’s womb.
My personal motto throughout the Miss World Malta contest was: Believe in yourself and others will follow suit. I strongly believe that believing in one’s own capacities is crucial in life. The mind is very powerful and it could drive a person to great lengths, thus if we believe in ourselves we can reach the top in whatever we are doing. This motto has accompanied me all the way throughout the contest and I believe it helped me a lot to achieve this precious title. This shall also be my motto in this coming Miss World contest since I believe that I can represent my country with pride, dignity and self worth. I believe in my country and in myself and this shall be my driving force
