My name is Martha Fenech and I was born on the 13th of September 1990, so I’ll soon be eighteen years old. I live in the northern town of St. Julian’s. St. Julian’s started off as a small fishing village yet today it is known for tourism related businesses and for nightlife. I live together with my parents and my younger brother Moses. We are a very close and united family and I feel very fortunate to have had such a special and loving upbringing. This is reflected in my views towards others and towards life itself. I thank my parents for helping me become the person I am today.
At a very young age I loved music so I started piano and ballet lessons. Since I love dancing I also started jazz and hip-hop. I took part in big local dance productions and this gained me more confidence. I simply fell in love with the stage! The feeling one feels whilst performing is an incredible one because you become one with the audience. I enjoy all types of music which vary from House music to Latin. I listen to the type of music according to my mood!
I attended an all girls secondary school where I took Art, European Studies and languages as my main areas of study. European Studies was the perfect subject for me since it deals with different European countries and cultures. In fact, in 2004 I participated in a Unesco competition based on the E.U. where together with two school friends I reached the quarter finals. The prize was a trip to the European Parliament in Strasbourg where I participated in a seminar with teenagers from all over Europe. This was an amazing experience which I recall with pride and happiness. I have just finished college and I intend to go to University and get a degree to further my studies and qualifications. I have just chosen my course at University and I hope to graduate in Bachelor of Communications. I believe that I have made the right choice as I love meeting new people and I’m sure that this course will give me more opportunities in my future career.
I started modeling at the age of sixteen and I have truly gained confidence in myself and went a long way ahead. I have participated in various fashion shows and even appeared on local magazines. I also won the titles of Miss Maltese Beauty and Photo Model of the Year. One of the highlights of my modeling career (apart from winning the Miss World Malta) came when I was chosen amongst hundreds of girls to model for Roma HC catalogue which was promoted around the world. This year was an amazing year for me. I not only won the right to represent Malta in The Miss World contest, yet I was also nominated for an award at The Malta Fashion Awards. For me Miss World is not just another beauty pageant where beauty is all that matters. Real beauty lies within and is reflected in one’s personality and actions. Beauty with a Purpose is the perfect motto for such a prestigious contest which gives a voice to those people less fortunate than others who suffer injustice and inequality.
I look forward to be part of such a cause and to represent Malta in the best of my ability. My personal motto is never forget who you are and where you came from and always be yourself. You simply have to believe in yourself to make all your dreams come true. It is an honor to be Malta’s ambassador in Miss World as I truly believe in myself and in my country. We are just a small island yet this small island has a lot to offer and I believe that we too can make a difference in the world.
